About the Holiday

Ripe Pumpkin Day is a time to find out how to tell if pumpkins are ripe. Normally a pumpkin is orange and has a hard skin. Also a pumpkin will have a hollow sound when thumped. Per HGTV.com "Wear gloves to protect your hands from the prickly vines. Use hand pruners or a sharp knife to cut the vine on either side of the stem. Give your pumpkin at least a few inches of stem—up to 6 is fantastic. You can trim off excess vine pieces later. Never carry a pumpkin by its stem."

We were unable to locate the origins of this holiday, though there are many references to it being celebrated on October 7th.
