About the Holiday
While not an official federal holiday, President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation declaring June 14th to be Flag Day beginning in 1916. This Patriotic Holiday serves as a commemoration of the official adoption of the flag of the United States by the Second Continental Congress on June 14, 1777. The week surrounding the observance of Flag Day is considered National Flag Week, when all Americans are urged to fly the American flag outside their homes.
