About the Holiday

On National Doctor's Day we show appreciation to our doctors for all the work they do for us and our families. They strive to keep us healthy, and when we're sick, they work to help us to feel better again.

This day was created by Eudora Brown Almond to mark the anniversary of the first use of general anesthesia in surgery. In 1990 it was made a national holiday.
