About the Holiday
Australia Day is the national day of Australia and marks the first arrival of British at Sydney Cove in 1788. Over the years, this holiday was also know as Anniversary Day, Foundation Day, and ANA Day. Current records show this holiday being celebrated as far back as 1808, though Australia Day was not widely celebrated nationally until the late 1980s and early 1990s.
This holiday is commonly celebrated with festivals and gatherings featuring barbecues, music, sports competitions and fireworks.
