Beatrix Potter Day celebrates the birthday of English author Beatrix Potter. Born on July 28, 1866 she is best known for her children's book The Tale of Peter Rabbit. She spent summers in Scotland and much of the time outside appreciating nature and taming wild animals. She had quite a collection of pets in her classroom that included a green frog, a rabbit, a tortoise, snake, newt, and lizards. Her stories are based on these animals she spent so much time with.
