Brownie Mix in a Jar

• 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
• 2 1/4 cups white sugar
• 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Mix together flour, baking powder and salt in a small bowl. Layer the ingredients in a 1-quart mason jar in the following order, sugar (bottom layer), cocoa, flour mixture, and chopped (top layer). Press each layer firmly in place before adding the next layer. Seal jar. Decorate the jar, attach instructions and add a gift tag. Makes one gift jar.

Tips: Using a wide-mouth canning funnel will make it easier to add ingredients to the jar. After adding the layer of cocoa wipe out the inside of the jar with a dry paper towel to remove the excess powder, so the other layers can be seen clearly through the glass.
