Chimborazo Day celebrates the point on Earth that comes the closest to the Moon. Initially, most would believe that honor belongs to Mount Everest which is the highest point above sea level. However, the Earth is not a perfect sphere and has a significant bulge around the equator. The height of this bulge is enough to place the peak of Chimborazo about 1.3 miles further from the center of the Earth than Mount Everest.
