About the Holiday
In October 9th, 1911, the first National Fire Prevention Day was sponsored by Fire Marshals Association of North America (FMANA) on the 40th anniversary of the great Chicago fire to raise awareness about fire prevention. In 1925, President Calvin Coolidge create a national Fire Prevention Week which starts on the Sunday of the week that includes October 9th.
