About the Holiday
The goal of Global Handwashing Day is to achieve a global culture of washing hands with soap before eating and after bathroom visits. It is estimated that making this a global habit would save more lives than any single vaccine or medical intervention.[1]
Global Handwashing Day was originated in 2008 by the Global Public-Private Partnership for Handwashing that included: AED, CDC, Colgate-Palmolive, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Procter and Gamble, UNICEF, Unilever, World Bank - WSP (Water & Sanitation Program), USAID- HIP. The holiday has it's own website at GlobalHandwashingDay.org.
