About the Holiday
International Children's Book Day, or ICBD, is a day to get kids interested in reading and to call attention to children's books. This holiday was created in 1967 by International Board on Books for Young People, IBBY, a non-profit organization committed to bringing books and children together. The date of April 2nd was chosen because it is the birthday of Hans Christian Andersen who is noted for his children's stories.
