About the Holiday
International Day of Persons with Disabilities is a holiday promoted by the United Nations to raise awareness about disabilities and to work to fully integrate people with disabilities into all aspects of our society -- a society for all. This holiday was first established by the UN in 1992. Since 1998, each year has had a theme. The theme for 2011 is "Together for a better world for all: Including persons with disabilities in development".
