About the Holiday
There are a small few claimed holidays where we really don't see the point. Such is the case with this incarnation of Judgement Day. We'd understand if the underpinnings of this holiday were tied to a religious interpretation, or prognostication, of the final day. Or, if it were tied to the end of the Mayan calendar which occurred on 12/21/12, which some viewed as a potential ending of time. Even if it were a cinematic reference to the Judgement Days of 8/29/97 or 7/25/04 in the popular Terminator movies, it would be consistent with the formation of other holidays.
However, this Judgement Day happens to be one of more than 80 holidays that were invented and copyrighted by Wellcat Holidays. Their interpretation is that this is a day where you don't have to die to see how you measure up to your deity. You can simply look in the mirror and let the answer come to you.
In all fairness, it is a fun concept. It's just that we feel that holidays should be born out of a tradition, historical event, admiration, celebration, bringing awareness to a special cause or even a numerical combination of significance. In our view, it shouldn't be one of 80+ holidays that someone decided to invent. We also believe that holidays should be freely shared and not owned. We feel this holiday fails on both accounts. Our first thought was to not include it, though, we have found a number of other references to this day on the web. Thus we're inclined to include it for completeness and to provide background, while still feeling that it does not merit being classified as a holiday. Perhaps this day has caused us to be too judgmental.
