About the Holiday
On Log Cabin Day we should remember what life was like only a couple of hundred of years ago when folks lived in log cabins. With no electricity so to cool things down, you had to open the windows with no screens. No indoor plumbing meant you had to go to the bathroom in the outhouse or woods. To cook or to provide heat in the winter, you'd have to make a fire in the fireplace.
This holiday was founded by Virginia Handy and the Bad Axe Historical Society on June 25, 1986. The objective was to promote the preservation of Log Cabins and awareness and education of life during the era in America when log cabins were common.
