About the Holiday
Moon Day celebrates the monumental and historic achievement of man's first landing on the moon by American astronauts on the Apollo 11 spacecraft, commanded by Neil Armstrong, on July 20, 1969. The first words Armstrong intentionally spoke to Mission Control and the world from the lunar surface were, "Houston, Tranquility Base here. The Eagle has landed".
