About the Holiday

National Bagels and Lox Day celebrates the combination of bagels, cream cheese, and lox. Lox is a thinly sliced, cured salmon. While we were unable to locate the origin of the bagel, they were around as early as the early 1600s in Krakow, Poland where they were given as a gift to women in childbirth.^[1] That gives the bagel the distinction of being on of the earliest known push presents.
