About the Holiday
Hot or Cold? The varieties of cereals are endless. National Cereal Day honors the invention of corn flakes in the late 1800s by brothers William and John Kellogg (founders of Kellogg’s). Nearly half of Americans start their day eating cereal. The healthiest cereals contain whole grain, fiber, and protein. Most people eat cereal for breakfast but some snack on it, dry, during the day, or have it for dinner. In 2008 the most popular cereal was General Mills Cheerios. Famous cereal mascots include Tony the Tiger, Lucky the Leprechaun, Toucan Sam, Cap’n Crunch, Snap, Crackle, and Pop, and the Trix Rabbit.
