About the Holiday
With or without beans. Beef, chicken, pork, venison, or no meat? Mild or Spicy? The varieties of chili is endless. Don't think so? Attend a chili cook off. They are filled with more varieties of chili than you ever imagined. Chili did not originate in Mexico. It's believed to have originated either in Native American culture or Spanish priests in the nineteenth century. Celebrate National Chili Day by making a variety of chili you've never made before. Or, invite friends over for a potluck chili bar. Each can either bring a sample of their chili or stuff that goes with chili like diced onions, grated cheese, hot sauce, oyster crackers, Frito's, sour cream, hot peppers, or corn bread.
