About the Holiday
National Coming Out Day is a day set aside to promote the awareness of gay, bisexual, lesbian and transgender rights. This holiday is observed by LGBT people and their supporters, this day is celebrated internationally. This holiday was created on October 11, 1988, by Robert Eichberg and Jean O'Leary in celebration of the Second National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights in honor of the first gay march on Washington D.C. a year earlier. This is a day to publicly show gay pride, and is a day that many individuals decide to "come out" to their family, friends, and co-workers.
