About the Holiday
National Cotton Candy Day recognizes a favorite treat of carnivals and summer fairs. Cotton Candy's roots trace all the way back to the 1400s when it was called spun sugar. Being was labor intensive and expensive to produce it was not widely available until the cotton candy machine was invented in 1897 and cotton candy was first introduced to a mass audience as Fairy Floss at the Saint Louis World's Fair in 1904.
