About the Holiday
National Wildlife Day was created to increase awareness about all the endangered species around the world and educate the public on conservation strategies. The holiday was created by celebrity pet lifestyle expert and animal lover Colleen Paige. This date was picked in honor of Steve Irwin (aka the Crocodile Hunter) who died on this day in 2006. Steve was an Australian wildlife expert, television personality, and conservationist.
Wildlife is basically any non-domesticated untamed animal such as leopards, rhinos, gorillas, tigers, elephants, whales, bears, wolves, bison, and coyotes. For the 10 of the best wildlife experiences on the planet click here.
