About the Holiday
Nobel Prize Day is the day that the Nobel Prizes are awarded. The first Nobel Peace Prize was awarded in 1901 to Jean Henri Dunant, the founder of the Red Cross, and Frederic Passy, the founder of the French Peace Society. The Nobel Prize was established by the last will of Alfred Nobel who died in 1896. He donated his wealth to a Prize that would promote the development of peace and the forward progress of the living conditions of mankind.
It's commonly thought that guilt may have had a role in him creating the prize as he had made his fortune through his invention of Dynamite, which made the manufacture of bombs possible. In all, there are now Nobel Prizes awarded for contributions to mankind in the areas of Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Literature, Economics and Peace.
