About the Holiday
Sadie Hawkins Day is a holiday that stems from a 1930's cartoon strip, Al Capp's "Lil Abner" Cartoon. The first Sadie Hawkins Day depicted in the cartoon shows the unmarried women of the town of Dogpatch chasing down single men and dragging them over the finish line to be able to marry them. In today's culture, Sadie Hawkins is popular for school and organization dances, and it gives the ladies the opportunity to ask the men to the dance. As this may not be a very gifty holiday it can be a great occasion to throw a party.
