About the Holiday
Sister's Day is a holiday to express your love and appreciation to your sister. This day was started in 1999 by two women in Memphis, Tennessee, Tricia Rivalto Eleogram and Stacey Lowrey to celebrate the bonds of sisterhood. Today, you can not only honor the special relationship you have with a biological sister, but it can also be a day to show your appreciation for any sister-like relationship you may have with friends, sorority sisters, etc.
There is a debate on when Sister's Day is celebrated some resources say it is the first Sunday in August others on August 5th. The creators of Sister's Day (Tricia Rivalto Eleogram and Stacey Lowrey) and Hallmark, the largest manufacturer of holiday greeting cards show it as the first Sunday in August.
