About the Holiday
White Shirt Day commemorates the men and women that participated in the General Motors Autoworkers strike back in 1937. The strike ended on this day. White shirts was the symbol of the strike. They wanted to show that blue collar workers should get the same respect as their management in white shirts. These strikers helped the UAW (United Auto Workers) become the sole bargaining agent for GM autoworkers.
