About the Holiday
World Animal Day is a celebration of all animals throughout the world and a recognition of their beauty, intrigue and in many cases their interrelationship with humans. Today is a day to enjoy animals and to remember our role in providing a good world environment for them to thrive.
World Animal Day was started at an ecologist convention in Florence, Italy in 1931.[1]. The date was chosen because October 4th is the Feast Day for Saint Francis of Assisi the patron saint of animals.
