About the Holiday
If you've ever wanted to try your hand at the art of juggling, this is the day. This entertaining performance feat is thought to have originated as early as 1994-1781 BCE in Egypt, where a wall painting featuring juggling performers, was found in the tomb of a prince. The word, "juggling" is most likely derived from the Middle English word, "jogelen", which meant "to entertain by performing tricks". World Juggling Day, or WJD was created to teach people how to juggle. After all, it's never too late to teach an old dog some new tricks!
This holiday was started in the mid-1980's by the International Jugglers' Association (IJA) to pay tribute to the art of juggling and to get people interested in learning how to juggle. Originally, the holiday was called National Juggling Day. In 1995, the association changed the holiday's name to the now current World Juggling Day. More information can be found on their website.
