About the Holiday
World Population Day was established by Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme in 1989 to bring attention to the implications and needs of an ever growing population. This holiday grew out of an observance of Day of Five Billion on July 11th, 1987.[1] Each year, this holiday has a different theme associated with it. Themes from recent years were the following...
- 2012 - Universal Access to Reproductive Health Services
- 2011 - 7 Billion Actions
- 2010 - Be Counted Say What You Need
- 2009 - Fight Poverty: Educate Girls
- 2008 - Plan Your Family, Plan Your Future
- 2007 - Men at Work
- 2006 - Being Young is Tough
- 2005 - Equality Empowers
- 2004 - ICPD at 10
- 2003 - 1,000,000,000 Adolescents
