About the Holiday
World Sauntering Day encourages people to slow down, enjoy life, and smell the roses by sauntering. Sauntering, by definition via Merriam-Webster.com, means "to walk along in a slow and relaxed manner". This holiday was created in 1979 by W. T. Rabe who was Public Relations Director at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island in Michigan. At that time jogging was gaining popularity. W.T. Rabe thought moving fast makes you miss out on things and so suggested slowing down the pace. That way you can appreciate what's around you and relax more. You can go sauntering by yourself, in a group, or with your dog.
