About the Holiday
World Teachers' Day is a day to celebrate those who work to inspire us and our children to learn. Take today to say thank you to a teacher who has made a difference in your life or in the life of your child. This day was created to increase the awareness of the importance of teachers and to celebrate the essential contributions they make to our world.
This holiday was first observed in 1994 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization or UNESCO to recognize adoption of the UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers in 1966 which helped establish a number of guidelines and responsibilities for both teaching and teachers. World Teachers' Day is now celebrated in over 100 countries world-wide. Visit WorldTeachersDay.org for more information.
