About the Holiday
World Toilet Day calls attention to the fact that approximately 40% of the world's population does not have adequate access to adequate bathroom sanitation.[1] This lack of proper sanitation is the world's biggest cause of infections which has a disproportionate affect on the those who are 5 years and younger.
This holiday was started in 2001 by the World Toilet Organization (WTO) to raise awareness about and to help solve this problem.
