About the Holiday
Father's Day is a day to honor your good ol' Dad. Also this day is a great opportunity to show gratitude toward other important men that have fatherly roles; like stepfathers, foster fathers, grandfather, uncles, and godfathers. Celebrate this day by making the special father figures in your life feel like a King.
Father's Day has a unique history, it is believed that the first observance of Father's Day to have been on July 5th, 1908 in a church located in Fairmont, West Virginia, by Dr. Robert Webb of West Virginia at the Central United Methodist Church of Fairmont. The observance was in honor 361 men who were killed in a mine explosion in December, 1907 in nearby Monongah, West Virgina. But it was not until 1972 until there was a national observance instituted by President Nixon. Learn more about this holiday and some interesting facts at History of Father's Day.
The officially recognized date of Father's Day varies from country to country, but in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and in many other countries, Father's Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June.
