About the Holiday
Great American Meatout Day was started in 1985 and is coordinated, each year, by FARM (Farm Animal Rights Movement). It's basically a day without meat and encourages everyone to eat whole grains, fruit, vegetables, legumes, seeds, and nuts. Studies show that eating too much red meat or processed meats may shorten your lifespan. A more vegetarian diet can help reduce your risk of heart disease, cancer, and stroke. It's also less expensive, easier to prepare, and easier when it comes time for clean up.
