About the Holiday
National Brownie Day celebrates this dessert that's a cross between a cake and cookie. Brownies come in two types: cakey or fudgy. The most common mix-in is walnuts and other brownie additions include other types of nuts, chocolate chips, cream cheese and icing. A brownie served with ice cream is called brownie à la mode. Brownies made without chocolate and with brown sugar are refereed to as Blond Brownies or Blondies. The first recorded brownie recipes dates back to 1906 in the Boston Cooking School Cook Book by Fannie Merritt Farmer.
