About the Holiday
National Cherry Cheesecake Day celebrates this visually appealing and tasty mix of cherries and cream cheese. Ingredients usually include graham cracker crust, cream cheese, condensed milk, lemon juice, vanilla, cherry pie filing, sugar, butter, powdered sugar, heavy cream, and/or whipped topping. Historically the United States is the biggest exporter of cherries. States where the most cherries are grown include Washington, California, Oregon, and Northern Michigan. Cream cheese has been around since 1880 under the name Empire Company and branded PHILADELPHIA Brand Cream Cheese. It was accidentally invited in 1872 by an American Dairyman William Lawrence of Chester, N.Y who was trying to make a cheese similar to the French cheese Neufchatel.
