About the Holiday
National Grape Popsicle Day celebrates one of the most popular Popsicle flavors. The creation of the Popsicle dates back to 1905, in San Francisco, when 11 year old Frank Epperson mixed water with white powder flavoring to make soda. He left it out all night. There happened to be a record low temperature that night. When we went out the next morning the drink mix froze with the stirring stick inside.
Per SmithsonianMag.com: "He patented "frozen ice on a stick" in 1923 and started making what he called "Eppsicles" and his children soon termed "Popsicles." A year or two later, Epperson sold his patent to the Joe Lowe Co.".
