About the Holiday
National Spaghetti Day celebrates this popular long, thin, sting like, cylindrical pasta. Main ingredients are water and semolina flour and are made by boiling them in salted water (that helps them not stick). Typical things served in spaghetti are a tomato sauce and Parmesan cheese. Often included are meat balls, Italian sausage, chicken (i.e. Chicken Parmesan), garlic, onion, and/or peppers.
The word spaghetti come from the Italian word spaghetto which means twine or thin string. The Guiness record for largest bowl of spaghetti was contained in an above ground pool and included 13,780 pounds of noodles set by restaurant Buca Di Beppo’s in Garden Grove, California in 2010.
