About the Holiday
Just two days after Margarita Day, we celebrate National Tortilla Chip Day. Tortilla chips, considered a Mexican food known as tostados, were popularized in the US thanks to Rebecca Webb Carranza. It's said that in the 1950s, Ms. Carranza had taken home some rejected tortillas from her and her husband's tortilla factory, cut them into triangles and fried them for guests at their party. They were a huge hit and by the 1960s, making Tort chips was their main business.[1]
The tortilla chip is a very popular and versatile chip that can be enjoyed many ways. Celebrate this holiday by enjoying Tortilla Chips in as many variations as you can create. Perhaps by eating some yummy tortilla chips with salsa, making some Nachos, or just by sharing an entire bag of Doritos. It's okay if you go a little overboard today, because tomorrow just happens to be Let's All Eat Right Day.
