About the Holiday
American pen-paller, Rosie Tholl, wanted a special day to tell her pen pal friends just how meaningful their friendship was. So, Pen Pal Day was born. This is a day for special letters and gifts to be sent to your pen pals, but it can also be celebrated by finding a new friend across the miles.
A pen pal is someone you keep in touch with that you never met and may and may never meet. They are often located in another state or country. Before the internet and smart phones, people hand wrote and mailed letters to communicate with their pen pal. Today, many keep in touch via email, texting, Facebook, or Twitter.
