About the Holiday
No, we're not pulling your leg - this really is National Poultry Day, a special time reserved for the adoration of the white meat. While a poultry meal is relatively common in this day and age, chicken was considered a premium product until after World War II, reserved for only those who could afford it's higher price. And while the chicken's popularity certainly rises above that of the turkey, please give the turkey the respect it's due on this day as well - as it was Ben Franklin's choice for representing America as it's national bird.
