About the Holiday
Bank Transfer Day was started by Kristen Christian in 2011 to encourage people to cancel their bank accounts and move to credit unions. The holiday's founder was discouraged by the monthly debit card fees that the big banks had recently announced in response to the Dodd-Frank Wall Street reform that placed a limit on debit card interchange fees. You can find more information on their Facebook page.
