Bath Bombs are are form of bath fizzie, or a ball of powder which, when placed in bath water, dissolves partly or completely and effervesces, also in some cases adding scent, color, and/or other properties or materials to the water. Sometimes manufacturers hide tiny toys or printed messages inside, or include dried botanicals - like herbs or flower petals - that are released into the bath as the bomb dissolves.[1]

Bath Bomb Basic Ingredients
- 1 part citric acid *
- 2 parts baking soda
- Witch hazel
- Coloring[2] (Optional)
- Fragrance oil (Optional)
- Dome Shaped Mold
*Citric Acid, usually produced in powder form, is an organic acid found naturally in citrus fruits. Citric acid is found in a variety of cleaning products and especially in beauty products.
Citric acid, combined with sodium bicarbonate, is used to make bath fizzies or bath tablets — the combination of the two produces carbon dioxide, producing a pleasantly effervescent water.
Equipment
- Large mixing bowl
- Whisk or mixer with whisk attachment
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Any small bottle that will allow you to squirt small amounts of liquid into the dry ingredients.
- Sieve or sifter
- Spoon
- Spray bottle of distilled water
- Mold for the bombs
- Cookie sheet covered with paper towels or waxed paper
Basic Instructions
- Mix all dry ingredients (citric acid, cornstarch, baking soda) in the bowl.
- If using fragrance or coloring - In a separate bowl or small cup, mix the vegetable oil, fragrance, and coloring together.
- Slowly incorporate the oil mixture into the dry ingredients. Mix well.
- Tamp the mixture into your mold. The more you pack your mixture into your mold, the longer lasting and harder your bath bombs will be.
- Turn the formed bath bomb onto the cookie sheet.
- Allow to dry. They will be semi-hard within 2-3 hours, but allow 24-48 for them to fully dry before storing or wrapping the bath bombs.

Bath Bomb Favor Packaging
There are a wide variety of ways to creatively wrap your bath bomb wedding favor.
- For a formal wedding favor, you can place it in a small drawstring bag or clear box.
- For an eco-friendly wedding favor, the bag can be cotton or hemp.
- You could wrap it in a small washcloth or bandana for a more colorful presentation.
- Metallic foil comes in different colors and could be used to tightly wrap the ball. A ribbon or sting can be added as an accent.
