About the Holiday

Black Love Day is a day of atonement, reconciliation, celebration and demonstration of Black Love that demonstrates the 5 tenants -- toward the Creator, for Self, for the Family, within the Black Community and for the Black Race. On this day, people of African descent practice the principles of Black Love for 24 hours and seek to returning love to everyday and to heal all relationships for a better planet.

This holiday was established by the founder and director of the African American Holiday Association, Ayo Handy Kendi, in 1993. His goals were to encourage the following...

1. Black self-love
2. Increased peace and less violence
3. Racial healing
