About the Holiday
Brandied Fruit Day celebrates sweet fruit that is soaked and marinated with brandy and sugar. Fruit that works well brandied include: pineapple, peach, pear, maraschino cherries, cherries, blueberries, plums, and apricots. Ideally you should soak the fruit in brandy and sugar for at least a week or a month. Brandied fruit can be used as topping on pies, ice cream, cake, yogurt, with whipped cream, or as a relish or condiment.
Brandy is actually a type of wine and comes from the Dutch word brandewijn which means burnt wine. It's usually 80 proof (40% alcohol/volume).
