About the Holiday
International Working Women's Day marks the day that women garment workers, in New York City, marched for better working and living conditions on March 8, 1908 as well as the socialist women who founded IWWD (International Working Women's Day) in 1911. It's an official holiday in 28 countries and is a national holiday in some countries like Russia and China. It is sponsored, worldwide, by the United Nations. It's a day to recognize the political, social, and economic achievements of women as well as focus on advancing women's rights in the workforce, politics, and society.
