About the Holiday
League of Women Voter's Day commemorates Carrie Chapman Catt proposing the founding of the League of Women Voters on February 14th, 1920 to "finish the fight" and work to end discrimination against women.[1] This came roughly 6 months before the passing of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution which gave women the right to vote.
Today, the nonpartisan League of Women Voters is over 150,000 members strong with over 800 leagues throughout the US. The league seeks to discuss the important issues, ask the difficult questions and demand accountability from the government.
