About the Holiday
On National Librarian Day we thank the information professionals who were our personal search engines before the term search engine was even a coined. Don't get us wrong, the Card Catalog and the Dewey Decimal System is great and does help to track down the easy info. Though, if you're in need of the more vague, the more obscure or the more difficult to find, there's no better place to turn than your local librarian.
In 8th century BC, Ashurbanipal, King of Assyria is credited with being the first person to introduce librarianship as a profession at his palace's library in Mesopotamia.[1]
