About the Holiday
Originated by The Tolkien Society in 2003, Tolkien Reading Day is a way to encourage and promote the readings of author J.R. R. Tolkiens' collection of works. Many dates were originally considered, but the society eventually settled on March 25, in honor of the downfall of Sauron, from Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings".
