About the Holiday
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Lent season for Christians. The Lent period starts on Ash Wednesday and continues until Easter. It symbolizes Jesus's going into the desert for 40 days and fasting before the start of his ministry. To recognize the significance of this day, many Christians attend church services on Wednesday morning and receive ashes on their forward to symbolize morning and repentance.
The Lent season asks Christians to follow Jesus's example and to make sacrifices and go without things they'd normally depend on. In addition, Christians should not eat meat (except fish) on Fridays during Lent.
